Log Cabin 5 at Kluane National Park

This is another log cabin in the fantastic area of Kluane
National Park. Being right at the park boundary it gives
ideal
opportunities to explore this untouched wilderness.
It is a 160 km drive from Whitehorse to this log
cabin, just outside of the
community of Haines Junction (10
km away ). Within a short walk from he cabin you are
at he base of the steep, rugged
mountains, which you can see right from
your cabin window. The Alsek Valley starts here, with a good trail through open
meadows to the mountains and into the
heart of Kluane National Park.
Kluane Lake, Kloo Lake and Jarvis River are good fishing
and recreational spots in the vicinity, while a
number of hiking trails
are leading off into the parks untouched
wilderness.
In Haines Junction is the headquarter of Kluane
Park and the Visitor Center. The community also
provides services like
gas stations, general store,
restaurants and a bakery.
There is road access to the cabin. |
| Set up : |
The log cabin is divided into 2 bedrooms and a common room
with a kitchen counter and kitchen setup.
One bedroom has a Queen size bed and the other one is
furnished with 3 bunk
beds with mattresses.
There is lots of space for up to 5
people in this cabin.
The kitchen is equipped with a 2
burner propane stove, and all the dishes, pots, pans, you
name it, and a big water holding tank.
A large table and chairs are
close to the window for a great view. There are propane
lights and of course a woodstove for heating
the cabin.
A campfire pit is behind the cabin and an outhouse
serves as your bathroom facilities. |
| Activities
in the Area : |
The log cabin being
located directly at Kluane National Park, is a perfect base
for multiple activities in the area.
- Many hiking trails start
close to the cabin inside and outside the National Park,
from a few hours to several days long. You find books and
pamphlets about what to do in the cabin
- Canoeing on Kloo
Lake or Pine Lake.
- Fishing for Lake Trout or
Grayling.
- Drive up the Haines Road
into the open tundra. Chances to see Grizzly bears here
are very likely.
- Whitewater Rafting on the
Tatshenshini River.
- Glacier Flights out of
Haines Junction over the largest non polar ice field of
the world.
- Take a day trip to Haines
, Alaska, for eagle watching.
- Just hang around the cabin
for a relaxing day, watch the sunset from the veranda or
enjoy the campfire next to the cabin.
