Log Cabin
4 on Otter Island in Big Salmon Lake

|
Location: |
If you want to be in a remote location away from
everybody else, than that's the place to be. This Cabin
is on a small island
( 500m x 300m ) on Big Salmon
Lake. Here you are on your own. During the summer,
the cabin is only accessible by canoe
or floatplane. It is a 250
km drive from Whitehorse to Quiet Lake on the
South Canol Road. Here you put in the canoe with all
your gear and paddle across Sandy
Lake into Big Salmon Lake. You reach the Cabin on
the island after approx. 6 hrs
paddling time. Big Salmon Lake is 10 km long and for Yukon
standards a medium size lake, well suited for canoeing.
Big Salmon Lake is surrounded by steep mountains
and spruce forest. The connecting streams between the
lakes have a very
slow current and can be paddled upstream. They
are bordered with marshy areas and grassy sloughs,
prime moose habitat. |

Set up : |
The log cabin is 20' x14', surrounded by spruce
forest and offers enough room for up to 6 people.
There is a loft upstairs with
one double and two single mattresses.
Here you have plenty of room to stand up. .
The kitchen is fully equipped with a propane
stove (incl. oven), lots of counter space, cabinets,
sink, and shelves. It provides
as much comfort in the wilderness as possible.
The dining area with a table, bench and chairs
offers a great view to the bay
and the lake itself. In the living room area you
find a comfortable sofa and an armchair.
The big woodstove keeps the cabin warm on a
cool fall evening or on frosty winter days. Propane
and kerosene lights light up the
cabin if need be.The lake around you is the
best water supply you can get, and is always ready for a bath.
To top it of, there is a log sauna close to the lake
after a cool or tireing day.
Long summer evenings are best enjoyed around
the campfire. A large fire pit is next to the cabin.
And last but not least
there is the traditional outhouse for your convenience
in the wilderness
Furthermore there are pots, pans, cutlery,
dishes, dish soap, an ax, a saw, and a radio phone for emergencies.
For groups larger than 4 people there is the
smaller old cabin available, which can be used as a
